“A combination between Siamese Dream Smashing Pumpkins and some of the sounds coming out of the Washington, D.C., music scene (à la Fugazi, Jawbox, or even Scream), NU has created an excellently fresh, albeit short, EP recording. NU’s sound is especially fresh and complete. John Hiler and Leif Olsen, the masterful producers behind NU, have created but a taste of what their future work will inevitably behold. As the recording plays, there’s also quite a recognizable sound that seems to have a Nirvana influence, but even more prominent than that is an Alice in Chains sound, à la that band’s excellent sophomore release, Dirt. NU has created an excellent recording and one that truly delivers the goods.
